Finally, Opera on Tuesday, June 11 revealed more details about Opera GX for Windows that is tailored to meet specific needs of more than 1.2 billion PC gamers in the world. According to Opera’s website, the browser “is a special version of the Opera browser built specifically to complement gaming. The browser includes unique features to help you get the most out of both gaming and browsing.”
— Opera (@opera) June 7, 2019 “Opera GX is built for people who love games and spend a lot of time building their setups. We want to give them a browser to perfectly match their beautiful machines. I have a strong feeling this browser will resonate with the gaming world,” said Krystian Kolondra, EVP at Opera browsers in the announcement blog post. Opera GX not only allows users to customize the look of their browser but also allows them to limit their computer’s CPU and/or RAM by using the new the ‘GX Control Panel’ feature. Toggling on the circle will allow the user to set a certain percentage of the computer’s resources to the browser, which will set Opera GX within these limits and allow gamers to take complete control of their gaming and browsing experiences. “Running a game might require a lot of effort from your machine. Even more so if you are streaming while you play. Before Opera GX, gamers often shut down their browsers in order to not slow down their gaming experience. We came up with the GX Control feature to make people’s games run more smoothly without requiring them to compromise on what they do on the Web,” said Maciej Kocemba, product director of Opera GX. Opera GX also features Twitch integration that allows gamers to log in to their Twitch account directly via the browser’s sidebar. This will notify them when a streamer they follow goes live. Also, there is a “speed dial screen”, which includes shortcuts to sites popular among gamers including Discord, YouTube and Reddit. Additionally, Opera has also created GX Corner, a place where gaming news from the Web will be presented along with curated gaming deals and information about new and interesting releases. It also added gaming-inspired sound effects to the browser interface, which can be enabled or disabled from the Settings. Lastly, Opera GX includes the standard Opera browser features such as free built-in VPN, an in-built ad-blocker, and Video Pop Out function. By default, the browser comes in black color with red accents that highlights the spaces and icon. “At Opera, we want to set a new standard in browsing,” said Krystian Kolondra. “Today, no other browser is even close to having the kind of feature set you will find in Opera, and we hope people will enjoy the new additions coming with Opera GX”. The early access Opera GX is currently available only for Windows and can be downloaded from the Opera website. The final version of Opera GX is set for release later this year.
