During his iMiD presentation, Park Won-sang, a principal engineer for Samsung Display Co., the company may introduce a, “full-screen display whose display area ratio reaches more than 90 percent next year,” which means very little bezel. The researcher added that Samsung may have devices with 99 percent display to body ratios in future devices, making smartphones all screen with no dead space. This means nearly the whole face of the Galaxy S8 would be a bezel-free display. One of the advantages of increasing the display area ratio is that the Galaxy S8 would be able to help an immersive virtual reality experience. This means the Galaxy S8 would work very well with virtual reality headsets like the Samsung Gear VR and the Google Daydream VR. According to past rumours, Samsung is expected to remove the Galaxy S series’ long-standing physical home button on the Galaxy S8. This would be in accordance with the speculation of a larger display area, as the home button may no longer fit on the front of the device. However, this would also mean the removal of the fingerprint scanner, which is built into the Home button. But another rumour suggests Samsung with its next-gen display tech has taken care of that, which would allow fingerprint scanning directly from the screen. Samsung Galaxy S8 will reportedly feature a 5.1-inch 2K super AMOLED display, with the larger version sporting a 5.5-inch 4K display. The smartphone is likely to be powered by the company’s upcoming Exynos 8895 processor, and likely the Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 830 chipset. A dual-rear camera setup is also expected with the ‘Edge’ version of the Galaxy S8. The smartphone is also expected to have an improved camera, along with an enhanced artificial intelligence service.
